Rita earned her J.D. from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she practiced law prior to switching careers to pursue her passion for education. She then spent seven years in the classroom as a high school social studies teacher. In 2011 she completed her M.A. in Instructional Technology with a focus on how new technologies can change the current educational paradigm. She went on to work as a technology integration specialist promoting the sound pedagogical use of technology in the classroom.
Her desire to help classroom teachers integrate these technologies more simply led her to found Skaffl, LLC, a technology startup that created applications for use in the K-12 classroom. Skaffl began by winning a local Start-up Weekend competition. Skaffl was a Ben Franklin Technology Partners company and raised over $350,000 in funding from various sources.
She is currently the Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Muhlenberg College where she draws on her years of experience as an educator and entrepreneur to promote the advancement of entrepreneurial skills among the entire student body. Muhlenberg hosts two annual entrepreneurial competitions each year that give students the ability to promote their business ideas. Her innovative methodologies for teaching entrepreneurship incorporate hands on practice with strong theoretical underpinnings.
